Irasema 'Iris' Reza Bailey, LMT Doula
I was born and
raised in Fredericksburg, Texas. I'm first generation Mexican American. Healing has been in my family for many
generations. Growing up I watched my grandmother and aunt help heal
ailments using natural remedies and sobar (which means to rub/massage in
Spanish), needless to say I had acquired an interest. They also
instilled the importance of integrating the mind, body and soul. We as
humans are simple but complicated at the same time. Our bodies give us
many hints that help keep us balanced, we sometimes need help realizing
them. Our emotional and
mental status affects our physical body.
I originally started a career in massage to help alleviate the pains of
pregnancy. I don't have children of my own yet, but I am the oldest of
five. I knew it was my calling after I started working at the only OB/GYN
office in Fredericksburg. I saw so many women enter pregnancy with the
mind set that it was a disease instead of a natural life process. So
many women in physical & emotional pain, all I wanted to do was to
make them feel better and ease the process of childbirth.
I have been trained in the following massage modalities:
Prenatal/Postnatal, Structural Bodywork, Swedish, Deep Tissue,
Reflexology, and Reiki Energetic Healing. I attended The Austin School
of Massage in 2002 and became state licensed in 2003. I have done
continuing education at Lauterstien-Conway and with Vidaluna. I attended
Reiki classes with Reiki Master, Lila Wilds. I took a local doula
training in 2008 & a DONA (Doulas of North America) training January
2010. I’m currently attending births to receive my national
certification through DONA.
I’m also proud to be a part of a doula volunteer group called GALS
(Giving Austin Labor Support). We offer continuous labor support for moms who are alone. GALS is currently based out of Brackenridge
Hospital and has recently collaborated with Any Baby Can (a family
recourse center who helps underprivileged families and families who are
battling illness). At Any Baby Can I help Spanish speaking moms get the correct resources. These moms often have trouble voicing their needs to receive the proper care.
